Recently I have been install DAX 2012 pre-release at my virtual box with the type of virtual hardisk is 'VHD' in order I can use later on virtual PC or Hyper-V environment (I hope so...). It is very nice to see new changes of DAX GUI and new feature inside DAX after long time to spend on installation, because there are so much update of software requirements to download which is not described at system requirement manual. 64 bit environment is mandatory of installation so don't try to install at 32 bit environment even if using windows 2008. Now I'm trying to explore this pre-release of DAX 2012 and waiting to have the RTM of DAX 2012. I only install the core of DAX 2012 because there are some error to install/configure SharePoint foundation, EP, Enterprise Search, SSRS, SSAS and Web service (still trying to solve those errors). My installation environment describe as below:
*Main OS Windows 7 professional SP1
*Virtual Box 4.1
*Virtual Environment 64 bit
*Virtual OS Windows Server 2008 R1 Sp1
*Sql Server 2008 Sp1 with some update
*.Net Framework 4
*SharePoint Foundation 2010 with some update (not yet use, failed for )
*Search server Express with some update
DAX 2012 Installer provide a tool that can use to know prerequisite system requirement, this tool is very useful than installer previous DAX version, because we don't need to read Log file as in version before while we have some error during installation. I have some experiences to get solution for errors when I try to install WF, SSRS and SSAS at DAX 2009, it is so hard and wasting time to read log file. After we know the errors we need to define which file/program need to download the update, if we don't know the solution we need to find out at KB Microsoft.
